Sword: The Postmortem

Greetings sword hu-... Yeah. Maybe not for today, this is serious.

Jokes aside, Sword is soon to turn 2 years old now. I originally wanted to make this post on the game's release date of this year, but I didn't feel like sitting on it for 3 months. I felt like now is a perfect time then ever to share my thoughts on the game and thank those who helped me along the way.

As small and simple as sword is, I'm still happy about the game to this day, which stems mainly from it being my first ever project to successfully get published. Sure, it's not noteworthy or big as I said (It has allot of inspirations from MINIT, maybe even a bit obvious with it's 1bit style, grid base world and the topic of swords), but I still hold this game dear. Another reason being that it was a means to an end for my creative block and lack of motivation when it comes to projects like these. I always wanted to make games for fun, but at first, I felt like I would never go anywhere. I always worried what others may think rather then what I did. Which is why when working on sword, I learned that the best audience for your work is yourself, others who enjoy it as much as you do come later. You should always pursue/make what you enjoy rather then something you don't. I feel like that was the biggest thing I can take from sword. And hey, while working, I was lucky to have found those who did enjoy my work as much as I did. This is where I say thanks to those very people!

I first want to thank Jeff (GreenLizard307) for composing the soundtrack. While working on sword, the biggest hurdle was music. Music to me was like listening to a recording of yourself sing or talk. In short, I was scared of making music myself and felt like it would be terrible. Jeff on the other hand was so kind enough to compose the soundtrack for me. Please support them on soundcloud if you can, I can't thank them enough!

I wish to also thank Jay Tholen, an amazing game developer. I'm so thankful to have talked/worked with him even for a small 'for fun' part of the game's development. All the "Hmm?" sounds you hear are from him. Please check out his work if you haven't already!

I also wish to give thanks and appreciation to my main inspiration as mentioned above, MINIT by Kitty Calis, Jan Willem Nijman, Dominik Joahnn, Jukio Kallio. Please support the developers!

But most of all, thank you (Yeah that's right, you!) for taking a moment of your time to not only play, but share your thoughts/show feedback and support. Whatever the case may be, either to help see the game improve or just wanted to say how much you enjoyed it. Even if you haven't said anything at all and just picked up the game for a few minutes. It means so much to me.

With all that being said, I hope to make more games in the future. But until then,

Thank You!
